About me...

I'm Alex (she/her); an artist and mom. My husband and I are San Francisco Bay Area natives who moved to the Salt Lake Valley more than a decade ago and, while it took a little while, I have fallen in love with living close to mountains.

I love the outdoors, travel, soccer, and getting completely lost in a great book. I try to read more than 100 books each year. I geek out over art, history, and the fandoms of Outlander, Harry Potter, and Star Trek. I’m a foodie, a dabbler in photography and crafty stuff, and a proud member of The Oregon Trail Generation. The year I turned 40, I started practicing taekwondo and earned my 1st degree black belt in the fall of 2021.

My son convinced me to make an intro post a while back, so click here if you want to learn 10 random facts about me.

When I was in 1st grade, I won a school art contest and my drawing was put on display at our shopping mall. I still remember the pride I felt seeing my drawing in a public space and I believe that was the start of my interest in all things art. Throughout middle school and high school I took as many art classes as I could. As a Lifetime Girl Scout, I donated my talents to my Girl Scout council and designed event patches during high school and college.

I’m a graduate of the Academy of Art University, School of Illustration, and after college I picked up work wherever I could if it was related to art. That meant picture framing, illustrating a couple of children’s books, and a great job designing merch for theme parks. While planning my wedding in 2007, I helped a few brides with designing a map for their wedding invitations. Word spread throughout our forum and I found myself with orders for invitations, maps, programs, and more. Online relationships with these women grew and when we all started having babies, I was honored to be asked to create birth announcements and invitations for baby showers and birthdays.

Through referrals, I can trace most of my long-time clients back to a handful of women from that wedding planning group. Referring me to a friend or colleague is the best compliment I can receive and it’s so appreciated.

Graphic Design: I'm highly experienced with vector graphics; whether it's creating graphics from scratch, or manipulating existing graphics and text. I can create business branding, product manuals, annual reports, social media graphics, apparel mockups and graphics, and activity sheets & workbooks for children, and coloring pages. I have been working with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for decades.

Traditional Painting: I’ve been a painter since I was a teen and landscapes are my jam. I’m a sucker for waterfalls, red rock, sunsets, and starry skies. I can work in watercolor, ink, gouache, and any combination of those, and I’m slowly getting back into oils after a long hiatus. I can also do illustration for children’s books.

I have some experience with photography and photo editing, and over the last few years, I’ve been learning Adobe Premiere, CapCut, social media management, and content creation. These are not my biggest focus, but I am enjoying these different tools.

I am always looking to connect with business owners; whether it’s a short-term gig or a long-term contract. I've been able to contract with some really great companies and organizations. Some of my favorites: OutGrown (Hike it Baby), Land Beyond Zion, Líllébaby, Wolfpack Running Club, Spirit For Us, Direct Creatives, Skye Mountain Construction, and AMYS Martial Arts.
